Tonight's Pizza and Movie Night is Shrek! I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid and I forgot how good it was!
Shrek is a spin on Fairy Tales. It tells the tale of an Ogre named Shrek who lives in a swamp and wants to live alone. Across the swamp is a Kingdom ruled by a man named Lord Farquad. Lord Farquad is arresting and jailing all fairy tale creatures. The fairytale creatures know that the knights are afraid of Shrek, so they all find refuge in Shrek's Swap. Needless to say, Shrek does NOT like this and decides to make a deal with Lord Farquad to stop imprisoning the fairytale creatures while also making sure that his swamp stays private to only him.
The deal includes Shrek (and Donkey, who begrudgingly becomes Shrek's funny sidekick) going on an adventure to save Princess Fiona who is locked away in a tower, guarded by a fire breathing dragon. Lord Farquad wants to marry Princess Fiona, but doesn't want to risk his life to save her (ick!). So Shrek and Donkey travel across the land to the tower where Fiona is held. They rescue her and start to embark on their journey back to their Kingdom.
Along the way, Donkey finds out that Fiona has had a curse put on her that makes her turn into an ogre every sun down to sun up. A lot of adventure happens, and in the end, Fiona finds beauty in her true self as an ogre, and Fiona and Shrek fall in love.
It's an action packed movie and family friendly for all ages! The only parts that might scare toddlers in when Shrek growls and the dragon blows fire (but the dragon becomes nice halfway through!).
