I felt like I was flooded by kids toys all day every day. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE that my kids play so hard with their toys, it's just that my brain gets too overstimulated by toys on the floor constantly. I knew if I found a system where I could "close the mess inside" then I might be more successful in not being overstimulated all day.

I went on Pinterest to get some inspiration, and couldn't find any solutions that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I also had to make sure that the dimensions fit the space I was going to use. Building a built in ourselves would have been great, however, in that stage of life we didn't have the time or energy while our 3 little ones ran around and I was halfway through my 4th pregnancy. Any pre-built built ins cost upwards of $1,500 (and that was the low end of the spectrum!). I finally landed on IKEA where I could customize exactly what I needed and what dimensions would fit.

IKEA HAUGA BOOKCASE & CABINET

We started by buying two IKEA Hauga Bookcases. I needed a bookcase with doors that close. This was key to hiding the toys.

Next, we bought three matching cabinets in the Hauga style. This was called the Hauga Cabinet with two doors. We didn't need the top part to these cabinets, so we sawed the top part off so that the cabinets could be flush.

Then we placed the Linnmon Tabletop ontop of the middle sections to create a seamless look.

Bottom line

Don't settle!! Sometimes it takes a little longer to find the right fit, but I am over the moon that we got creative and came up with this solution. I am now able to hide all of our toy mess, while having a somewhat stylish family room- win, win!
